Kokos Services is the department of the Theatre Academy Helsinki involved in this project. Theatre Academy Helsinki is an increasingly international university of performing arts. It plays a role in defining the function of the performing arts and their significance to culture and society. Founded in 1979 , Theatre Academy Helsinki provides the highest education in theatre and dance in Finland. It offers training in dance, drama, light and sound art, performance and pedagogy. The Academy also offers licentiate and doctoral programmes.

Theatre Academy Helsinki acknowledges the strong intrinsic value of performing arts. They reflect, reinforce and bring to question society’s structures, goals and values. They offer aesthetic, emotional and intellectual experiences. The increasingly important role of arts in business and the broad range of applied uses of arts in society are one of the key focuses of the Kokos Services, which is the continuing education and development unit of Theatre Academy Helsinki.

As a national university Theatre Academy Helsinki provides expert opinions and formal pronouncements on cultural and educational policies at local, regional and national levels on a frequent basis. In an ongoing national ESF-funded co-ordination project on wellness services of the third sector in culture, sport and youth-work, Theatre Academy Helsinki together with its partner organisations has over a period of 2,5 years analysed the so-called “service turn” in the third sector and the national development programme that aims to enhance such development in Finland. In 2007, Dr. Kai Lehikoinen, who is currently Head of Education and Development at the Kokos Services of Theatre Academy Helsinki, produced an analysis of educational policy on continuing education of the creative sector in Finland.
